Officially the Remote Work Visa — Visado de Trabajar a Distancia. It lets a non-EU national live legally in Spain while working remotely for an employer registered outside it, or self-employed for foreign clients. One year to begin, then a three-year permit, then two more — and a special tax regime that caps the rate at 24% for the first 4 years.
Your Income Has To Come From Somewhere Else.
That is the whole shape of this visa. Spain wants skilled workers and entrepreneurs living there and spending there, earning from abroad. An employer registered outside Spain qualifies you; so does self-employment — but Spanish clients may account for no more than a fifth of your professional activity.

A Reduced Tax Rate
Qualify for the special regime and pay 24% on income for the first 4 years, where total income stays under EUR 600,000 a year — against a standard rate reaching 47%.

Residents can open a Spanish bank account and obtain a tax number, which opens access to the full range of financial services and products.
Spouse and Children Included
A spouse or partner and dependent children under 18 join the main application, subject to the additional income requirement. Their permits run to the same expiry as yours.
Visa-Free Travel Across Schengen
A Spanish residence permit allows visa-free travel to the other Schengen countries for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

A high standard of living, a favourable climate, excellent private healthcare, strong education options and a diverse cultural life.
A Pathway to Residency, Then Citizenship
Permanent residency after 5 years of continuous legal residence, and eligibility for Spanish citizenship 5 years after that, subject to statutory requirements.
The Twenty Per Cent Rule
Self-employed applicants may work for Spanish clients — but not for many of them. Work for clients in Spain may not exceed 20% of your total professional activity. Cross that line and you are no longer within the route this visa grants.
It is the single condition most likely to be breached by accident, because it is breached by success: win a large Spanish client and your compliant business becomes a non-compliant one. If your plan involves growing a Spanish client base, this is the wrong visa and the Work Visa is probably the right one.
Two Things Worth Knowing Before You Start
The route runs through BLS International. Applications are filed through BLS, which acts as the administrative intermediary between applicants and the Spanish authorities, and the published 4–6 month processing time depends on BLS and embassy appointment availability rather than on how quickly your file is ready. Getting the file finished early does not shorten it; missing an appointment lengthens it.
The income figure is pegged to the minimum wage. EUR 2,762 a month is set at twice Spain's SMI, so it rises whenever the SMI does. An application prepared against this year's figure may be assessed against next year's.

The household must demonstrate EUR 2,762 a month — EUR 33,144 a year, and set at twice Spain's minimum wage — plus EUR 1,035 a month for a spouse, partner or adult relative and EUR 345 a month per child. This is income you evidence, not money anyone takes, so it is deliberately outside the total and sits in its own schedule below. Because it tracks the minimum wage, it moves when the minimum wage does.
Four lines in the source's fee table carry no per-person marker, so this sheet reads them against how Spain charges: the service fee once per application, since it sits directly beneath a line explicitly marked "Per Person" and is not itself marked; the consular fee, the NIE and the residence permit card per person, since each applicant files their own visa, needs their own foreigner number and receives their own TIE; and notary, legalisation and translation once per application, since it is published as a bundle rather than a rate. Confirm all four before relying on them. The child income supplement is published as EUR 345 in the eligibility section and EUR 346 in the fee section of the same page; this sheet uses EUR 345. The fee table prices adult dependents over 18 at EUR 3,500 while the family-inclusion rules admit only a spouse or partner and children under 18 — the control exists because the fee does. Income thresholds are set against Spain's minimum wage (SMI) and move with it. Figures are indicative, non-binding, and confirmed during due diligence.
