National Innovation Visa.
Permanent Residence, On The Day It Is Granted.

Subclass 858 — formerly the Global Talent visa. No employer, no job offer, no investment and no age limit: what it asks for is an exceptional record in a sector Australia has decided matters, and one nationally recognised Australian willing to nominate you for it. Everything else we publish makes you wait years for permanence. This one does not.

The Route · Australia

One Australian Has To Vouch For You.

Australia introduced the National Innovation Visa to attract professionals who can drive technological advancement — prioritising artificial intelligence, renewable energy, cybersecurity, biomedical sciences and advanced manufacturing. The whole route turns on one person or organisation, recognised nationally in your field, signing a Form 1000.

Direct Permanent Residency

Successful applicants are granted immediate permanent residency, and may live, work and study anywhere in Australia without restriction.

No Age Limit

There is no upper age limit, which makes this route reachable for experienced professionals, entrepreneurs and researchers that the skilled visas cut off at 45.

Priority Processing

The Department of Home Affairs gives this visa priority, so decisions come faster than on most other skilled migration pathways.

No Sponsorship or Job Offer Required

Unlike the other skilled visas, this one needs neither employer sponsorship nor a formal job offer — only a nomination from a recognised individual or organisation in your field.

A Pathway to Australian Citizenship

Five years of lawful residence, and the minimum requirements met, opens eligibility for citizenship.

Security and Lifestyle

A secure environment and one of the highest standards of living anywhere in the world.

Healthcare and Education

Australian residency opens access to high-quality healthcare and education.

The Social Welfare System

Access to Centrelink — Australia's social security and assistance system — after two years of permanent residency.

Dual Citizenship Allowed

No requirement to renounce an existing nationality on taking Australian residency or citizenship.

Family Inclusion

A spouse or partner and children under 18 — or dependent children aged 18 to 23 — can apply alongside.

The Two Requirements People Misread

The nomination is not a job offer, and your nominator is not your employer. A Form 1000 nominator must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, an eligible New Zealand citizen or an Australian organisation, and must be recognised nationally in your field of expertise. They vouch for your standing. They do not hire you, sponsor you, or take on any obligation for your employment — which is why this route works for founders and researchers who have no Australian employer at all.

The AUD 167,500 is a capacity, not a payslip. The test is whether you can attract a high income — currently benchmarked at AUD 167,500 — or demonstrate strong future earning potential. Applicants regularly rule themselves out on this figure when they should not.

Your nominator's Form 1000 is in. That was the hard part.
I do not currently earn AUD 167,500. Is that fatal?
No — the test is capacity or strong potential, not current income. We will evidence the potential.

The Nomination, Tracked

This route is an evidence exercise. Awards, publications, patents, proof of earning capacity, and one Form 1000 from the right Australian. The Bayat Group panel holds all of it, shows you what is still missing, and puts your advisor a message away.

Nominator outreach, logged — who has been approached, and where each conversation stands.

Costs

No Investment. Just Fees.

This route asks for no capital, no employer and no job offer. What it asks for is a nomination — and three fees, which fall in two different currencies.

Indicative Term Sheet
Australia · National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858)
Ref. AUS-NIV/2026
Non-binding estimate
Article I — Legal Fees

Published as a range, from USD 8,000 to USD 10,000. Both bounds are shown because the source does not say what decides between them.

1.1 At the lower bound The floor of the published range. The source does not say what puts a file here rather than at the top.
$8,000 US dollars, legal fees
1.2 At the upper bound The ceiling of the published range. This sheet defaults here, so the estimate errs high rather than low.
$10,000 US dollars, legal fees
Article II — Two Currencies, Two Subtotals

One of these is paid to the Australian government and one to us. They are not added together, because they are not the same money.

Family members — included, but not priced here

Your partner and children can be included in this application and they receive permanent residence with you. The source page prices nothing for them, and the Department of Home Affairs does charge for dependants, so no figure appears below rather than an invented one. Ask us and we will price your household exactly.

Health examinations and police clearances — payable to third parties

Step six requires both, for you and for every family member on the application. Neither is priced on the source page, and neither is paid to us or to the Department. Both sit outside the subtotals below.

US Dollars USD 10,250
Our fees. Independent of the Department's charge above.

Prepared by · Citizenship & Residency Practice

The source publishes all three of these figures with a bare dollar sign and does not name the currency. This sheet reads the consultation and legal fees as US dollars — which is how the General Skilled Migration page prices the same consultation — and the visa application fee as Australian dollars, which is the Department of Home Affairs' published charge for Subclass 858. Confirm both before relying on either. The AUD 167,500 figure is an earning capacity, tested as current income or strong future potential; it is not a fee and not a salary you must already be paid. Priority sectors, nomination requirements and the application charge are set by the Department of Home Affairs and move. Figures are indicative, non-binding, and confirmed during due diligence.

Application Process

Seven Steps to Permanent Residence

Select a step to see what happens. Step two is the one nothing else can proceed without, and step four is the one you cannot file before.

Step 1 of 7 Assessed with Bayat Group

Confirm Eligibility

Before anything else: you work in a priority sector — technology, health, energy, AgTech, advanced manufacturing — you hold international recognition and an exceptional track record, you can attract a high salary (currently AUD 167,500) or show strong potential to, and you can obtain a nomination from a recognised Australian individual or organisation in your field.

Secure a Nominator

Your nominator must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, an eligible New Zealand citizen, or an Australian organisation — and must be recognised nationally in your field of expertise. They complete a Form 1000 to support your Expression of Interest. This is not an employer and not a job offer.

Submit an Expression of Interest

The Expression of Interest form goes in with the evidence behind it: proof of achievements — awards, publications, patents — your résumé, proof of income or future earning potential, and the Form 1000 from your nominator.

Receive the Invitation to Apply

If the Expression of Interest succeeds, you receive an invitation to apply for the Subclass 858 visa, along with a unique identifier code. Nothing can be filed before this arrives.

The Visa Application

The visa application itself, prepared and lodged with your migration agent. This is the point at which the AUD 4,840 application charge falls due.

Health and Character Checks

You and every family member included in the application complete health examinations and provide police clearance certificates. Neither is priced on the source page; both are payable to third parties.

Receive the Visa Outcome

On approval, you and your family are granted permanent residency under Subclass 858 — not a temporary visa with a wait behind it. You receive a Visa Grant Notice setting out travel, residency and any conditions.

Talk It Through. Then Begin.

Our concierge answers your Subclass 858 questions in minutes — starting with the two that decide it, which are whether your sector counts as a priority one and whether your record will carry a nomination. When you are ready it opens your application where the conversation ends.
